JERUSALEM, April 18 (UPI) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told a Knesset committee Wednesday Israel has no plans to attack Syria, but he is wary of a possible Syrian attack.
"Israel has no intention to attack Syria," Olmert told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting, YNetNews reported.
However, he said the Israeli military was preparing a response should Syria attack.
His remarks were in apparent response to remarks made Sunday by Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal.
"If Israel rejects the Arab League peace proposal, resistance will be the only way to liberate the Golan Heights," Bilal said.
The term "resistance" was taken by Israeli analysts to mean either a limited terror campaign or full-scale war, the Jerusalem Post reported.
