Reporter's name to be on Holocaust wall

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., April 14 (UPI) -- The name of Daniel Pearl, the reporter for The Wall Street Journal killed in Pakistan, is being added to the Holocaust Memorial Wall in Miami Beach.

Pearl is the first person to be honored on the wall who was not killed in the World War II Nazi genocide, The Miami Herald reported.

Judea Pearl, the reporter's father, said he was approached by the organizer of the annual Yom Hashoah or remembrance ceremony -- to be held Sunday. He was asked to give the keynote address, something he has done before, and told that his son would be remembered on the memorial.

"Of course he was not a victim of the Holocaust," Judea Pearl said. "But the same forces that killed my grandparents in Auschwitz, the forces of hatred, are still operating in our world in the 21st century -- and Danny is one of the victims."

Daniel Pearl was abducted in Pakistan in early 2002 and beheaded. His killers released a videotape that showed him proclaiming just before his death that he was a Jew.
