POTTSTOWN, Pa., April 12 (UPI) -- Dark skies and steady rain set the mood as hundreds of law enforcement officers attended services Thursday for slain FBI agent Barry Bush in Pottstown, Pa.

Bush, 51, was killed by a stray bullet from another agent's weapon as they closed in on suspected bank robbers in New Jersey last Thursday, the first FBI agent fatally shot in more than a decade and the 51st to die in the line of duty in agency's 99-year history.

FBI Director Robert Mueller, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and New Jersey Gov. John Corzine were among the dignitaries at the memorial at the Hill School. The New York Times said the line of mourners stretched more than one-quarter of a mile.

"Being an FBI agent is a calling, but it is also a profession," said Mueller in his eulogy. "And Barry was the consummate professional. For almost 20 years he was on the street, right in the middle of the action. He was a model of everything the badge should represent."
