Argentina: Maradona on the mend

BUENOS AIRES, April 9 (UPI) -- Former Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona is on the road to recovery, though he still has a way to go, doctors said Monday.

Maradona was hospitalized this month for alcohol-induced hepatitis.

After his retirement from the game, Maradona has endured a well-publicized battle with drug addiction and obesity. In 2005, he underwent stomach stapling surgery in Colombia and drug treatment in Cuba.

He appeared to be on the mend after the surgery and time spent in rehab, hosting a popular TV show in Argentina.
