Tories nab Schwarzenegger for rally

PRESTON, England, April 9 (UPI) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has agreed to make an appearance at this year's conference of Britain's Conservative Party.

The Telegraph reported that the actor-turned-politician will speak at the Conservative Party's annual rally in Blackpool this October.

The ability of the Tories to get Schwarzenegger to speak at the rally also marks a major coup for the political group due to British Prime Minister Tony Blair's previous attempts to garner his support for the Labor Party.

Schwarzenegger and Blair had worked together earlier on a 2006 environmental joint accord but the Republican governor never officially backed Blair's party.

Instead, the paper reported that the new relationship between Schwarzenegger and the Tories was assisted by U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. A front-runner for the Republican nomination for the 2008 presidential election, McCain was the 2006 guest speaker for the Tory party's annual rally.
