LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) -- Thousands of people joined a peaceful protest in Los Angeles this weekend in support of illegal immigrants in the United States.
Just two weeks after a pair of similar demonstrations in the California city were met with low turnouts, the Los Angeles Times said Saturday's pro-immigration rally drew an estimated 10,000 supporters.
With most participants dressed in red in honor of the American flag, the noontime demonstration wound through the streets of Los Angeles before ending at City Hall.
Many in attendance at Saturday's rally said they joined the demonstration to voice their displeasure with Washington's handling of the illegal immigration issue.
"How many people are here without documents and are here paying taxes and working?" Carlos Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant, told the Times. "I don't know why they don't want to give us papers, when we are working and trying to be good citizens."
