China's richest woman Nina Wang dies

HONG KONG, April 4 (UPI) -- Nina Wang, one of the richest women in the world with an estimated fortune of over $4 billion, reportedly died in Hong Kong at age 70.

China's official news agency Xinhua, citing a company statement, said that Wang died of illness Tuesday. It said the company gave no details but earlier reports had said she had cancer.

Wang was chairwoman of ChinaChem Group and had been listed several times on Forbes' list of billionaires.

Xinhua reported Wang made headlines in the 1990s because of her sensational legal battle with her father-in-law Wang Din-shin over her missing husband Teddy Wang's estate. Teddy Wang was apparently kidnapped in April 1990 and has never been seen again. He was declared legally dead on Sept. 22, 1999, Xinhua said and an appeals court ruled in 2005 that Nina Wang was the sole beneficiary of her husband's estate.

It was not clear who will now inherit her fortune. She had no children.
