NORWALK, Iowa, April 3 (UPI) -- A 20-year-old man sounded like Harry Houdini when he allegedly escaped from a Norwalk, Iowa, police cruiser early Tuesday.

Police claimed that Matthew Maddux of Des Moines rolled down the cruiser window while handcuffed then shed his cuffs while running, the Des Moines (Iowa) Register reported.

A Des Moines police dog helped track down Maddux in an apartment complex laundry room dryer, the newspaper reported.

Police said Maddux performed his amazing feats allegedly while drunk. They charged him with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated as well as escape from custody, driving while barred and interference with official acts, the newspaper reported.

Maddux had been stopped by Norwalk police at 1:30 a.m. after he allegedly ran some stop signs.
