Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
LONDON, April 1 (UPI) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has appointed consultants to evaluate royal affairs and palaces to ensure they are environmentally friendly.
In apparent response to Prince Charles' ongoing efforts to make Britain more environmentally conscious, the queen assigned the consultants to do the same for the royal family's homes, The Sunday Times of London reported.
"We are talking to a number of organizations about our carbon footprint to reduce the royal household's impact on the environment," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said. "It is now part and parcel of the management policy here."
While the royal family's use of helicopters and planes likely will be a popular topic for the consultants, environmentalist Tony Juniper said the queen could easily start small.
"The queen's easiest wins are going to be by improving energy efficiency and changing thousands of light bulbs in the palaces," the Friends of the Earth official told the newspaper. "She needs to use renewable power where appropriate and change the cars that are in use by the royal family for more efficient hybrid versions."
