AIX-EN-PROVENCE, France, March 31 (UPI) -- A French nun says Pope John Paul II cured her Parkinson's disease two months after he died in 2005.
At a news conference Friday in Aix-en-Provence, Sister Marie Simon-Pierre said that the Roman Catholic church would have to decide whether the pope's intercession was miraculous.
"I have been cured," she said. "My healing was the work of God through the intercession of Pope John Paul II."
John Paul is on the fast track for sainthood. The Vatican must document one miracle for beatification and a second one for canonization.
Simon-Pierre said that she was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2001, and her symptoms became so bad she feared she would have to stop working.
In 2005, her mother superior at the Little Sisters of Catholic Maternity Hospitals told her to write the pope's name on a piece of paper, which she did, almost illegibly. A few hours later, she said, she heard a voice telling her to write again and found she could. She woke the next morning feeling as if she had been through "a second birth."
