Romania doctors to seek better pay in EU

BUCHAREST, Romania, March 30 (UPI) -- About 10 percent of Romania's physicians, dissatisfied with low salaries, plan to leave the country to seek better jobs in Western Europe, a report said.

With Romania's access to the European Union as of Jan. 1, Romanian doctors find it much easier to leave the country in the search for a new job in Western countries where salaries are 10 to 15 times higher, the Serbian news agency Beta reported Friday.

As a member of the EU, Romania's university diplomas are now recognized in other member countries, a Ministry of Health report said.

Romanian doctors say apart from low salaries they face inadequate working conditions, and a scarcity of medical technology and equipment, when compared with the EU and the United States, the Cotidianul Bucharest daily reported.
