CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, March 29 (UPI) -- U.S. Navy Capt. Lisa Nowak, the former astronaut charged with attempted kidnapping, has reported for duty at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas.

The Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times reported it wasn't clear whether Nowak would work on the Texas base or telecommute as she develops curriculum for the Chief of Naval Air Training.

"She checked in like anybody would check in for their first day of

work," Chief of Naval Air Training spokesman Lt. Sean Robertson told the Caller-Times. Nowak will start work by April 16, he said.

Nowak has pleaded innocent of the alleged attempted kidnapping of U.S. Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman, the girlfriend of another NASA astronaut. She is scheduled to go on trial in Florida in July. NASA fired her from the Astronaut Corps in March.

Robertson said he didn't know whether Nowak would live in Corpus Christi or at her home in Houston.

"Where she chooses to live is not our decision to make," he told the Caller-Times. "Hers is an unusual situation. ... She's got her issues she has to work through and we'll enable her to do that."
