South Korean president in Middle East

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, March 26 (UPI) -- The president of South Korean said on a visit to Saudi Arabia Monday that he considers aid to North Korea an investment in his own country.

"I think it is an investment for our future," President Roh Moo-hyun said as he visited with South Koreans living in Riyadh, the Korea Times reported.

Roh said he believes the North Korean nuclear issue will soon be resolved.

"One of the biggest obstacles has been the nuclear problem,'' he said. "But I feel that the ongoing denuclearization talks will be concluded successfully.''

Roh said South Korea experienced economic growth during the Vietnam War and the Middle East construction boom. He said a resurgence in North Korea could bring even more growth for South Korea.

Roh headed from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait and also planned to visit Qatar.
