Russia conducts war games in Sea of Japan

MOSCOW, March 26 (UPI) -- Russia conducted anti-submarine defense exercises in the Sea of Japan on Monday, Itar-Tass reported.

Fifteen warships, with auxiliary ships, helicopters and other aircraft, were participating in the maneuvers, Roman Martov told the Russian news agency. The ships belong to Russia's Pacific Fleet.

Diesel-powered submarines posing as enemy subs are also participating in the exercise.

Itar-Tass said helicopter crews will practice taking off and landing on the ships in the daylight and dark, and ship and submarine crews will fire torpedoes at targets.
