BOGOTA, March 25 (UPI) -- A Colombian army general allegedly collaborated with right-wing paramilitaries the United States considers a terror group, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Army chief Gen. Mario Montoya reportedly worked with right-wing gunmen in the military's battle against left-wing rebel groups, also classified by the U.S. State Department as terrorists, CIA intelligence cited by The Times said Sunday.

U.S. funding for Colombia, totaling $700 million a year, is coming under scrutiny on Capitol Hill where some lawmakers are calling for the funding to be reduced or diverted elsewhere in Colombia.

Right-wing paramilitaries and left-wing rebel groups both use drug trafficking to fund a more than four-decade-old civil war.
