School bus attack prompts lawsuit

PLANTATION, Fla., March 23 (UPI) -- The family of a Florida eighth-grader is suing her private school, saying she was repeatedly victimized by older boys on her school bus.

The family's attorney says a pair of high school students who rode the bus to the American Heritage campus in Plantation, Fla., exposed themselves to the girl and others, The Miami Herald reports.

"Over the course of this school year, these boys did horrible things to the middle school girls," attorney Jeff Herman said. "They terrorized them."

The lawsuit contends the bus driver did nothing to stop the boys.

Last October five young boys were arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a teenage girl on a Broward County school bus.

Following the attack, county officials were considering requiring school bus drivers to attend classes on how to handle assaults.
