Teacher who put child in storage on leave

ALBUQUERQUE, March 22 (UPI) -- A Rio Rancho, N.M., teacher accused of putting a student in a storage room has been placed on leave, although the child's mother wanted her arrested.

Tanya and George Griego said their 13-year-old son has severe anxiety disorder, attention deficit disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

They described the room he was left in as a large supply closet, although a school spokeswoman told the newspaper it has also been used as a classroom.

The room's door is difficult to open and the boy thought he was locked in, George Griego said.

The Griegos were told their son was placed in the room the first time because other students had permission to go in-line skating.

After hearing that their son had been left in the room, the Griegos went to the school with police and learned that he had been put in there again, the Journal reported.

"At that point, I asked the officer to arrest the teacher, begged him to do it but (the officer) ... would only say that the case would have to go through the (District Attorney's Office) to see if they could press charges against the teacher," Tanya Griego told the Journal.
