Cop accused of beating female bartender

CHICAGO, March 22 (UPI) -- Chicago police have charged a fellow officer with beating a petite bartender because she refused to continue serving him, after viewing a tape of the incident.

Karolina Obrycka, 25, who stands 5-foot-4 and weighs 115 pounds, told investigators that Officer Anthony Abbate, 6-foot-1 and 250 pounds, was drunk, was fighting with other patrons and trying to buy rounds of drinks with no money, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The bartender, who suffered injuries to her head, arms and ribs, said Abbate told her, "Nobody tells me what do to."

The video of the beating appeared on television across the country on Wednesday.

The attack at Jesse's Shortstop Inn occurred on Feb. 19 but Abbate was not arrested because he was in a substance abuse program. He was charged with misdemeanor battery but that was upgraded to a felony on Tuesday and Abbate was arrested and released on $70,000 bail.

Abbate also was suspected of trying to bribe Obrycka and threatening her to keep her quiet.
