Canadians sue over pet food

TORONTO, March 22 (UPI) -- Canadian pet owners have filed a class-action lawsuit against a Toronto pet-foot company involved in a massive recall of dog and cat food.

Menu Food has confirmed the deaths from kidney failure of 14 cats and dogs that ate its food in the United States, although none in Canada, CBC News reported.

The company has recalled 91 brands of pet food in North America. The lawsuit seeks $60 million and alleges that the company's food made their pets sick or killed them. Menu Foods had no comment on the lawsuit, CBC News reported.

It's the second class-action lawsuit against a pet-food company in Canada in a week. CBC News reported that the earlier class action case against the French company Royal Canin alleges that some of its dog and cat food contained too much Vitamin D, which can sicken or kill pets.
