The brawl broke out during a New York City championship game between Lincoln and Boys & Girls. It started with a hard foul on the court, and eventually included fights in the stands.

As more and more New York police officers started showing up, CBS 2 said, the brawl spilled into the streets around Madison Square Garden.

Shots were fired as the crowd moved from the Garden to Times Square, and then into a subway station, police said.

The NYPD called in reinforcements, including officers on horseback, on scooters and in riot gear, CBS 2 reported.
