LOS ANGELES, March 12 (UPI) -- Relatives of a black woman who revealed in 2003 that her father was late Sen. Strom Thurmond announced the creation of a Los Angeles nonprofit organization.

Monica Hudgens, daughter of Essie Mae Washington Williams, and her daughter, Maria Hutchinson, said they are creating a nonprofit organization designed to provide health education and other services to urban families, The Los Angeles Times reported Monday.

The two made the announcement at a book signing by Williams, whose book about her experience as the daughter of the late South Carolina Republican has sold about 100,000 copies, the Times said.

Williams told the newspaper a documentary about her life is being planned.
