Canadian aims for bowling record

TORONTO, March 10 (UPI) -- A Canadian man hopes to break his own record for marathon bowling.

Suresh Joachim of Mississauga begins an effort Sunday to bowl for one week or 168 hours straight, shattering the 100-hour record he set in 2005, The Toronto Sun reports. The bowling marathon is a fundraiser for the Feed The Children Fund.

Joachim, who has 20 mentions in the Guinness Book of World Records, is the number two record-holder in the world. He began breaking records in Sri Lanka before he moved to Canada by feats like standing on one leg for more than 76 hours.

Ashrita Furman of the United States is in the top spot.

"I want to be number one for records, but that guy has more than 100 records -- he's been doing it for more than 30 years," Joachim said.

In Canada, Furman has crawled a mile in 37 minutes and watched television for almost 70 hours. His wedding in 2003 featured 79 bridesmaids and 47 ushers.

Joachim has a more serious effort planned. In December, he plans to begin a 6,000 kilometer (3,600 mile) World Peace Marathon to get signatures on petitions for children's rights.
