WATAUGA, Texas, March 6 (UPI) -- The family of a Texas woman whose toddlers were videotaped smoking marijuana says the mother knew nothing about the forced drug-taking.
Shatorria McCoy lost custody of her children after Watauga police found the videotape during a search of her house. McCoy and her two children lived there with her brother, Demetris, and her mother.
Demetris McCoy, 17, and a friend, Vanswan Polty, 18, have been charged with injury to a child. The search was carried out because they were under suspicion of burglary.
Sharonda McCoy, the children's aunt, said her sister had no idea what was going on and was asleep when her brother and his friend gave the two children marijuana cigarettes.
"She was pretty shocked," Sharonda told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "She didn't even know."
The children, ages 2 and 4, are now in the custody of Texas Child Protection Services.
McCoy and Polty are allegedly seen on the videotape holding marijuana cigarettes to the toddlers' mouths and calling them "potheads."
