Report: U.S. slow on cutting emissions

WASHINGTON, March 2 (UPI) -- In a delayed report to the United Nations, the Bush administration projects that U.S. greenhouse gas emissions of will continue to grow in the next few years.

The report predicts there will be an 11 percent increase in the decade ending in 2012, down only slightly from the 11.6 percent growth rate in the previous decade. The report's authors say President George W. Bush has achieved the goal of reducing "greenhouse gas intensity" because emissions are growing more slowly than the economy.

"The Climate Action Report will show that the president's portfolio of actions addressing climate change and his unparalleled financial commitments are working," said Kristen Hellmer, a White House environmental spokeswoman.

The report was due last year.
