NORCO, Calif., March 3 (UPI) -- Firefighters responding to a blaze in Southern California found more than 1 million rounds of ammunition and 60 weapons stashed in a Norco house.

The firefighters had to restrain the owner of the home, who was trying to go back inside when they arrived Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reported. The newspaper said the owner appeared to be a survivalist.

"Anyone who has their house burned down obviously would want to save it, but he had some other motives for wanting to get back into that house," said Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez, a spokesman for the Riverside County sheriff's office.

Some of the ammunition was concealed in a tunnel under the garage.

A psychiatric evaluation was ordered for the home owner.
