Man accused of conning women on date sites

DEERFIELD, Ill., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A Deerfield, Ill., couple suspicious of their daughter's latest boyfriend found the man is an alleged con artist who is thought to have scammed multiple women.

The couple's investigation found that the man, who claimed to be a successful businessman named Matt Goldstein from California, is allegedly to be a disbarred lawyer from Atlanta who has warrants for his arrest in Georgia for counts of forgery and probation violation, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

The boyfriend is also under investigation for suspected fraud by the U.S. Secret Service in Boston.

He is thought to have conned 10 women in several states out of more than $1 million after meeting them through online dating services.

"And we're sure there are probably more victims out there," Deerfield Police Detective Juan Mazariegos said. "This guy is a real con artist."

Mazariegos said the suspect would earn the women's trust and convince them to invest in business deals or claim he had a cash flow problem at work.

Authorities have not filed charges against the man for the alleged con schemes.
