Court rejects polygamy case

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Supreme Court says it will not consider an appeal by a Utah man who sought to overturn his bigamy conviction.

The Christian Science Monitor said lawyers for polygamist Rodney Holm hoped to use the court's 2003 landmark ruling on gay rights as a means to challenge state laws against multiple marriage.

The court ruled in the 2003 case that adults are entitled to intimate relations without government interference.

Holm, who has three wives, is a member of a Mormon sect that practices polygamy as a tenet of faith.
