SAN DIEGO, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A San Diego pediatrician has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for possession of child pornography and will be deported to Canada on his release.

Dr. Jacques Lemire said in a plea agreement he had more than 10 but fewer than 100 images of children engaged in sexual acts on his laptop, and expressed remorse before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller on Monday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Tuesday.

Lemire, a Canadian citizen, formerly worked at the University of California at San Diego's Medical Center as chief of the pediatric nephrology, or kidney department, and also worked at Children's Hospital, the newspaper said.

In addition to prison time, the judge ordered Lemire deported when he completes his sentence. Lemire also surrendered his medical license.

He was arrested in 2004 when a computer technician repairing his laptop found the images. That also led to the arrest and conviction of another man with whom Lemire traded child pornography for three years, the report said.
