LAX to get larger spaces for larger planes

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Los Angeles city officials announced larger parking spaces will be constructed at Los Angeles International Airport for compatibility with larger aircraft.

The officials said the $732 million renovation would result in a number of spaces available at the Tom Bradley International Terminal for larger planes, The Los Angeles Times reported.

"We owe it to the millions of people who come to Los Angeles every year to have the most modern airport in the world," the Los Angeles Daily news quoted Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as saying during a Monday. "The Tom Bradley International Terminal is the first and last impression travelers have of Los Angeles. The upgrades will improve customer service so travelers' first and last impression of our great city will be positive."

The announced renovations come as airlines are increasingly taking international flights to newer airports, the Times said.

"Our friends in Northern California are stealing some customers away from us," Councilwoman Janice Hahn said in the Times' article. "We remain committed to being a leader in international travel."
