Pierre Trudeau's son to run for Parliament

MONTREAL, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Justin Trudeau, eldest son of the late Pierre Trudeau, who served as Canadian prime minister for 15 years, plans to run for Parliament.

Trudeau, as his father was, is a member of the Liberal Party. The district where he will be the candidate, Montreal Papineau, is a former Liberal stronghold now held by the Bloc Quebecois.

"We'll see whether I'm crazy or not," Trudeau told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

Trudeau believes his father would be pleased by his political plans.

"Make sure you're doing everything you can do to make the world a better place," Trudeau said was his father's advice to his children.

Pierre Trudeau, who died in 2000, dominated Canadian politics for a generation, serving as prime minister from 1968 to 1979 and then from 1980 to 1984.
