MIAMI, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- An elderly South Florida woman who has been living without power since Hurricane Andrew is preparing to enjoy her first hot bath in 15 years.
The woman, identified only as Norena, had electricity restored to her home after the town of Cutler Bay, Fla., and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez learned of her situation, WFOR-TV in Miami reported.
Norena's house was severely damaged when Hurricane Andrew slammed into Florida in August 1992.
Cheated by an unscrupulous contractor, she did not have the money to repair her home up to code so the electricity couldn't be reconnected.
For 15 years of hot summers and cold winters, Norena lived without air conditioning, heat and hot water.
Neighbors never noticed her spartan lifestyle which would have continued had a tipster not informed officials of her plight.
It took just a few hours of work and an inspection to get the power flowing again.
