Another explosion killed one person at a police checkpoint in Sadr City.

The joint U.S.-Iraqi security plan aimed at curbing sectarian violence in Baghdad went into effect Wednesday.

The explosions occurred one day after U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice paid an unannounced visit to Baghdad.
