LONDON, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A top British jockey has been banned from racing for a year for allegedly passing on inside information to bookmakers.
The Horseracing Regulatory Authority found Friday that Robert Winston was guilty of "the passing of information for reward," The Guardian reported. The terms of his suspension allow him to work in racing but not as a jockey.
The body imposed more serious penalties against two other jockeys, Robbie Fitzpatrick and Luke Fletcher. They were suspended for three years and "warned off" for that period, which bars them from entering racing stables, training facilities or any other racing premises.
Another rider, Fran Ferris, was suspended and warned off for two years.
The jockeys were caught up in an investigation into 37 races between June 2003 and February 2004. Five former bookmakers have been warned off, one of them indefinitely and the others for periods of up to three years.
