Earthquake shakes Hokkaido

SAPPORO, Japan, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A strong earthquake hit Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost major island, early Saturday.

The quake measured 6.6 on the Richter scale, Mainichi Daily News reported. That can be strong enough to cause structural damage in a 100-mile-across area in populated places, but no injuries or major property damage were reported.
