WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The tapes of Lewis "Scooter" Libby testifying to a Washington grand jury about the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame are set to be released.
A judge ruled Monday that the several hours of recorded audio tapes will be made public after being played to the trial jury in Libby's criminal case, CNN reported.
Libby's defense lawyers wanted to stop the tapes of Libby testifying to the grand jury from going public, saying the media's use of the recordings could cause problems with the non-sequestered jury.
U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton ruled that the tapes will be released to the media and the public and transcripts of the tapes will also be put into the public case file
Libby, who was formerly Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, is being charged on five-counts. The charges include perjury and obstruction of justice related to the public disclosure of the CIA official.
