BAGHDAD, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Senior military officials were preparing a new Iraq security plan that was to be announced soon, Iraqi government spokesman Ali Al-Dabbagh said Sunday.
The commander overseeing the new security plan will announce it, as well as the redeployment of military divisions to the Iraqi Parliament, Al-Dabbagh said in a statement reported by the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, Sunday.
Al-Dabbagh did not say when the new plan would be announced, saying only "the day is near," KUNA said.
Sources told KUNA the commander overseeing the new plan is expected to be Lt. Gen. Aboud Kanber.
Senior U.S. and Iraqi officials met Friday to put the final touches on the new security plan, Al-Dabbagh said.
Among those at the meeting were Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Iraqi National Security Advisor Muwafaq Al-Rubaie, U.S. Ambassador in Baghdad Zalmay Khalizad and U.S. Gen. George Casey, head of the multinational force in Iraq, KUNA reported.
