TEHRAN, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Iranian officials showed off one of the country's nuclear plants in what was billed as a demonstration of openness about Iran's nuclear program.
Gholam Reza Aghazadeh, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, toured the Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility with representatives from Malysia, Cuba, Egypt, Sudan and Algeria, and an observer of the Arab League, the Fars News Agency reported Sunday
The envoys represent their countries at the International Atomic Energy Agency. Reporters also came along on the tour.
Ali Ashgar Soltanieh, who leads Iran's delegation to the IAEA, told Alalam-TV that the tour was intended to show "that Iran is determined to continue its peaceful nuclear activities."
"This is an opportunity to see for yourselves what is going on and get first hand information about the activities here," Soltanieh said.
The West has tried to stop Iran's nuclear program and the United Nations has imposed sanctions out of fear it could lead to the production of nuclear weapons.
