Thief gets legislators' information

MADISON, Wis., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A thief who broke into the gym locker of a Wisconsin state employee stole a report that includes Social Security numbers of one-third of the state Assembly.

The report also included personal information on 74 legislative aides, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.

Officials said an employee in the state Human Resources Department took the report to work on at home, and stopped at her gym on the way.

A thief who broke open her locker stole her car key and used that to rifle through her car, taking a number of items, including the report.

Employees have since been told that any documents containing personal information must remain in the office.

Those whose Social Security numbers have been put at risk have been advised to get in touch with the three major credit bureaus and take other steps to insure that they are not victims of identity theft.
