CHICAGO, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., has returned to his home in Plano., Ill., from a Chicago hospital after gallbladder surgery.

Hastert, 65, told Friday's Chicago Tribune he planned to return to his regular duties in Washington as soon as his doctor will permit it.

The former high school wrestling coach was the longest serving Republican House speaker, from 1999 until last month when the GOP lost control of the House to the Democrats.
