CARACAS, Venezuela, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Venezuela is planning to purchase Russian missiles to defend its oil interests and other vital assets, a Venezuelan general said Tuesday.
Venezuela is considering purchasing up to a dozen Tor-M1 surface-to-air missile systems, Russia's Interfax news agency reported.
Venezuela is also in talks with Iran and other nations to purchase weapons, said President Hugo Chavez.
The leftist Chavez has accused the United States of interfering with Venezuela's internal affairs and said that his country was preparing for a possible U.S. invasion.
