PHILADELPHIA, N.Y., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince Charles and his wife ended a busy day Saturday in Philadelphia by sitting in the Prince of Wales' box at the Academy of Music.
Charles' great-great-grandfather, King Edward VII, sat in the same box before he acceded to the throne, when the academy was new. The prince and the Duchess of Cornwall, the former Camilla Parker-Bowles, attended a 150th anniversary concert.
The royal couple skipped the post-concert gala, returning to their hotel to sleep, NBC 10 reported.
Earlier in the day, the prince visited the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
He spent time with children involved in the Mural Arts Project. One boy, asked what he had said to Charles, responded, "Hi."
Enthusiastic crowds greeted the couple, the first British royals to hit Philadelphia since Queen Elizabeth II in 1976.
At International House, Charles participated in a discussion on urban renewal while the duchess talked to students from around the world.
On Sunday, the couple plan to attend a service at the Arch Street Presbyterian Church and head for New York by private train. Charles is scheduled to accept an environmental award before flying home.
