DETROIT, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Some public universities are searching for race blind ways to admit minorities in the wake of Michigan's new affirmative action ban.
One of the reasons for concern in other states is the African-American California businessman behind the Michigan and California initiatives is planning a kind of Super Tuesday next fall, The New York Times reports.
Ward Connerly is currently researching the possibility of campaigns against affirmative action in Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.
He is expected to announce the states he has chosen next month.
Facing the possibility of being added to the list, many public universities are already scrambling to find race-blind ways to attract more black and Hispanic students.
Two Republican representatives in Colorado have asked the state to examine the University of Colorado's spending on diversity.
At the University of Missouri, Vice Provost Ann Korschgen says they have already been discussing how to assure diversity if race can't be considered in the admission process.
