German exhibit focuses on Nazi sex slaves

BERLIN, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- An exhibit at the former Ravensbruck concentration camp in Germany is focusing on women forced to be sex slaves during the Nazi era in World War II.

The Independent reported that the exhibit, which opened at the museum last week, reveals the forced sex labor.

Insa Eschebach, the museum director, said the exhibit brings attention to an aspect of the Nazi concentration camps that has remained unknown for decades.

"Hardly any other part of concentration camp history has been so repressed and so tainted with prejudice and distortion," Eschebach said. "The women prisoners who were forced to work as prostitutes remained silent after 1945. Hardly any applied for financial compensation because talking about their experiences was too degrading for them."
