Algerian soldier killed by bomb

ALGIERS, Algeria, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Algeria has begun an advertising campaign to recruit civilians into the battle against Islamist fighters.

The government has also reported that rebels used a homemade bomb to attack an Army convoy near Jijel, killing one soldier and wounding six, Elkhabar reported. The attack took place in the Al-Babur Mountains on Sunday.

The poster campaign is aimed at the Salafist Brigade for Call and Combat, a group with alleged links to al-Qaida, Middle East News Line reported.

"The evolution of your country and its prosperity depend fundamentally

on its stability and security, a duty for all Algerian men and women, regardless of differences in their opinion," the poster says, in an effort to get residents of areas where the group operates to report on its movements.

Adel Mashat, the head of a Salafist group in Europe, has returned to Algeria after completing a six-year prison term in France. He negotiated his return to his family under a national reconciliation policy.
