Abducted mother, four children found safe

ELKHART, Ind., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A Chicago man faces charges of confinement and attempted murder after being found with an abducted Indiana woman and her four children in a motel.

Acting on phone records and a tip from a pizza delivery driver, police in Elkhart, Ind., went to a motel 6 miles from Kimberly Walker's home on Tuesday night, and called at a door asking if she was inside, WBBM-TV, Chicago, reported Wednesday.

Detective Sgt. Bill Wargo told the television staton that after a moment, the door opened and Walker was inside, trembling and shaking. Officers whisked her away and called out her children's names and they all came out unharmed, Wargo said.

Officers heard noises in the room and apprehended Jerry White, 30, allegedly trying to escape in an air duct.

White is Walker's former boyfriend and father of the children, who range in ages from 16 months to 9 years. He is charged with breaking into Walker's home Saturday morning, shooting her sister's boyfriend in the face and then abducting Walker and the children.
