SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A 2-month-old Texas baby has been found in the care of a California couple days after he was reported missing.

Isiah Ramirez was reported missing after his mother, Veronica Ramirez, took the child with her on a trip out of town and returned home without him the next day, the San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday.

An unidentified couple contacted authorities in Buena Park, Calif., Tuesday after seeing a story on the Internet saying the child had been reported missing. The couple told police Isiah had been given to them by a woman at a gas station near Columbus, Fla.

San Antonio Police Sgt. Gabe Trevino said Ramirez gave the couple legal documents she claimed allowed them to take the child legally.

Police did not reveal Ramirez' motive for giving the child away.

The child had been given into the custody of friend Gracie Martinez one week before the incident with a legally binding temporary child custody affidavit. Martinez said she had expected Ramirez to bring the child back from the trip.
