Jury selection begins in Libby trial

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Jury selection was under way in the Washington trial of I. Lewis Libby, U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff.

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton dismissed three of the nine potential jurors interviewed Tuesday, The Washington Post reported.

Libby is accused of lying to investigators and a grand jury during the investigation of the 2003 leak of a CIA officer's identity.

Prosecutors allege Libby "deliberately misled" FBI agents and a grand jury about conversations he had with journalists. Libby's defense lawyers say their client was unable to recall the details of those conversations, the newspaper said.
