Attempted bombing footage shown in court

LONDON, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- A video recording of the failed July 21, 2005, bombing on London's transport system was shown publicly for the first time in a British court.

The closed-circuit TV footage shows Ramzi Mohammed, who prosecutors say was the first of four failed bombers to attempt to cause chaos on the transport system that day, boarding a busy train with a rucksack containing a bomb and attempting to detonate the explosive device, Sky News reported Tuesday.

The video shows passengers fleeing the car while fireman Angus Campbell remained behind to argue with the alleged attempted bomber.

Prosecutor Nigel Sweeney said a moment on the silent video recording when Mohammed put the sack on the ground and pointed to it was when the suspect made excuses for his actions.

"Mohammed said not that it was a bomb, but rather 'What's the matter? It is bread. It isn't me. It was that,' pointing to the rucksack," Sweeney said.

"He placed the rucksack on the floor of the carriage, no doubt the best he could do, being surprised to find himself alive."
