Colombia nabs alleged drug kingpin

BOGOTA, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- An alleged Colombian drug kingpin wanted on charges of smuggling tons of cocaine into the United States has been captured, Caracol Radio reported Monday.

Eugenio Montoya was arrested after a prolonged police shootout in which no one was injured, police said.

Montoya's Norte del Valle cartel is believed to be one of the largest in Colombia and responsible for smuggling a large portion of the cocaine that reached U.S. shores.

The reputed drug boss is sought for extradition to face smuggling charges in a Miami court.
