Family angry at world's oldest mom, 67

BARCELONA, Spain, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Relatives of the Spanish woman who became the world's oldest mother at age 67 say she did not tell them about her plans.

Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara gave birth to twins in Barcelona in December, making her the world's oldest mother.

Her family is angry at her for not telling them she went to the United States last year to undergo in vitro fertilization, the Sunday Times of London reported.

Relatives told the Sunday Times they knew nothing about the birth until they read it in the news.

"We're mystified why she should suddenly want to do this now," Maria's brother, Manuel, said.

The new old mom, who has barely spoken to the press, has refused to discuss her motives for the pregnancy and denied allegations that she plans to sell her story to gossip magazines or movie producers, the Times said.
